According to the latest statistics of China Automobile Industry Association, the total number of lithium iron phosphate batteries loaded in October increased by 127.5% year-on-year, with the wind head covering the ternary lithium battery. Lithium iron phosphate battery loading increases sharply
According to the statistics of CAAC, in October 2020, China's power battery loading volume was 5.9gwh, up 44.0% year-on-year, and continued to maintain the growth trend. Among them, ternary lithium batteries were loaded 3.4gwh, up 15.7% year-on-year and 19.1% month on month; lithium iron phosphate batteries were 2.4gwh, up 127.5% year-on-year and 3.5% month on month.

Lithium iron phosphate ushers in the second spring
Industry experts point out that the rise and fall of lithium iron phosphate and lithium ternary batteries are greatly affected by the policy. The early policy was biased towards commercial vehicles, and the lithium iron phosphate battery gained advantages due to its safety. From 2014 to 2016, the shipment volume of LiFePO4 increased from 12000 tons to 56000 tons, and its market share reached 60% in 2016.
However, in December 2016, the competent authorities adopted the precise support policy and included the energy density of battery system into the assessment standard for the first time, and high energy density and long endurance mileage became the focus of subsidy. Ternary batteries have become popular, while lithium iron phosphate batteries have been neglected. By 2019, the proportion of the latter has dropped to less than 15%.
However, subsidies for new energy vehicles begin to decline in 2019, which is more than half of that in 2018, and it is likely to withdraw completely by the end of 2022. In this context, more cost-effective lithium iron phosphate batteries come back to people's attention.
Zhang Xiang, a senior analyst in the battery industry, pointed out that the technical level of lithium iron phosphate battery in China has been greatly improved. Especially in 2020, the promotion of BYD blade battery and lithium iron phosphate battery with CTP process inCATL has begun to change the market of high-end electric vehicles. At present, BYD's model with blade battery and Tesla Model 3, which is loaded with new lithium iron phosphate battery of CATL, have become hot selling models in China's high-end electric vehicle market.
Power electric vehicle reduces cost
"The share of LiFePO4 batteries is likely to exceed that of lithium ternary batteries again." Mei Songlin, a senior automobile industry analyst, said that the safety and low cost of lithium iron phosphate battery, as well as the industry and market's more rational understanding of the high endurance of electric vehicles, have promoted a new wave of market penetration of lithium iron phosphate batteries. There is no precious metal in lithium iron phosphate battery, phosphorus and iron are relatively cheap at present. Compared with the vehicle equipped with ternary lithium battery, the vehicle equipped with lithium iron phosphate battery has a price advantage of at least 5000 Yuan.
Miss Liu, the car watcher mentioned above, finally chose to buy the domestic model 3 equipped with lithium iron phosphate battery. The price was 249000 Yuan, which was much cheaper than the same Tesla equipped with lithium iron phosphate battery at the beginning of the year. Industry experts pointed out that after the full localization of parts, Tesla still has room for price reduction.
